Week 6 Recap

What a week it's been for crapshoot weather! Freezing rain, ice pellets, and end things off with a nice caking of snow.

But of course, being committed to your sport requires disciplines and holding yourself accountable for it. Given the relatively easy rest week, this past week is back to business for me. Got some speed work in while being comfortable within it and not aggravating any muscle pulling. I also managed to do an extended reflection run: 26 km for 26 years (and you can figure out the rest...) It was well spent especially since I managed to get into my zone from daytime distractions. Rather, it was the perfect time to count the small victories within the past year (first ever marathon, proving that "the body achieves what the mind believes", not settling for good when you can go for great and beyond) as well as the blessings of having the ability to be in shape for the most part and being healthy (especially since it is easily overlooked at this age range from partying all night long and all that fun jazz 🙄)

What's New

I am officially going to add two more races onto this year's list of competition! The first one being the Race Roster Spring Run Off 8K and The North Face Endurance Challenge in Collingwood, Ontario (as confirmed from one of their newsletter).

I'm looking forward to "kill the hill" once again after a hiatus from tackling High Park back in 2015. But more importantly this time around, I'm going to #RunToInspire as I am going to accompany a good friend of mine and help realize that what they can achieve is more than meets the eye. I know they want to thrive and they can.

Even though still tentative, I have my eyes set on the 50K challenge and will most definitely be one of my 2017 year highlights. Who knows how this will go? With the fresh blanket of snow at my nearby forest area, I decided to do a trial 2k and already reminded me of my struggle of last year's Half-Marathon Endurance Challenge. Nonetheless, more training is needed if I don't want to embarrass myself for the sake of participating.

What's Next

My daily trainers, the trusty Asics Gel Nimbus 17, is dangerously treading the 1,000+ km mark and need to start looking for the next cushioned, neutral trainers to keep on going. More strength training on the thighs area as proven by that exhausting trial trail run.

Any suggestions as to which pairs of shoes to get? I'm open to all ideas! - MW
